In the world of art, understanding value, also known as tone, is essential. It refers to the lightness or darkness of a color. For beginners in painting or drawing, embarking on value studies is a highly recommended starting point. These small and loosely sketched greyscale drawings provide invaluable insights into the placement of shadows and highlights. They prove particularly advantageous when tackling complex subjects that may obscure subtle shadows within the colors.
